Jenny Santa Maria is teaching another class at the SCAHC! Many of you will remember her from her Pysanky Egg Class, but she also teaches an Introduction to Embroidery Class!
Many people think of embroidery as a way to add a personal touch to their favorite clothes, but the definition for embroidery is actually “artful stitching”. By this definition it is considered one of the oldest folk traditions. Many cultural traditions have distinctive styles of quilting and embroidery. Jenny will show references from art history such as English Medieval embroidery and artful pieces made by the Indigenous of the southwest and Alaska natives today.
Participants will be introduced to many different stitches that can be used to create their own design! Specific sewing stitches we will learn step-by-step include the split stitch, the blanket stitch, the running stitch, and the French knot. All supplies will be included.
If our morning class sells out, we will be opening up a second session in the afternoon. We know September seems like a long way away, but Jenny’s Pysanky Egg Class sold out very quickly! We highly recommend getting seats while you can!
