The Franklin Mineral Museum contains a comprehensive display of minerals from the Franklin-Ogdensburg, NJ area, and site of the once active zinc mines. Visitors will see gemstones, crystals, and specimens of great rarity, as well as artifacts connected with the past of this unusual area.
The wealth of mineral specimens at Franklin owes it’s abundance to a sequence of geological events never duplicated elsewhere. Learn about these events as you walk through the exhibits.
The Museum contains a vast permanent world wide collection, and loaned collections of unusual interest. It also houses a spectacular display of fluorescent minerals, when viewed under ultra violet light is absolutely magnificent.
The Mine Replica, located in the original engine house which was used to hoist ore from the open cut, simulates actual mining operations in the Franklin Mine.
The Museum is privileged to offer Rock Collecting to the general public in such a mineralized area.
