The original Franklin Town Band was known as the Franklin Furnace Band and was organized in 1870. It is the oldest community band in New Jersey. Over the years, there have been fourth and fifth generation members in the band. One of the oldest pictures of the band shows the band dressed in Civil War Uniforms. The Franklin band has continued its tradition of concerts and parades for over 150 years. A partial collection of over 700 trophies is on display at the Franklin Historical Society Museum.
The Franklin Band is a 501c3 organization based in Franklin, NJ. We provide local musicians a fun environment where they can learn, grow, and perform music together for our community. We want to continue to bring free concerts to the public and give local musicians and students the opportunity to play in a full concert band. In order to do so, we rely upon charitable donations.
The Franklin Band is always seeking new members. We accept musicians of all ages from Eighth Grade well into their seventies and eighties. Whether you would like to play in the Concert Band or Marching Band (or BOTH!), we have a place for you. We rehearse every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. SO, DUST OFF THAT OLD HORN AND COME OUT AND PLAY!!!
