The Weekend Bag Program a 501c3 Non Profit was an initiative started by Isobel Costello in 2016 then a 14 year old freshman at Newton High School to help her peers who were struggling with juvenile food and hygiene insufficiency. As word got out about her program it quickly grew to more schools. Since graduating and going away to college in 2020, Isobels 2 younger sisters Olivia a freshman at Newton Highschool and Magdalen a 6th grader at Green Hills school took over running and operating the program. To date Olivia and Magdalen now a junior and 8th grader have grown the program, expanding to 16 schools and over 160 students a week getting a weekend bag, throughout Sussex County. The Weekend Bag Program Inc gives out every week in their bags:
1000 meal items
256 drink items
125 vegetable items
125 fruit cups
1500 snacks
256 hygiene itemsand as of March 2023 they have donated to students throughout Sussex County on the program over:
30 thousand Weekend Bags
120 thousand meal items
50 thousand hygiene items
The Program is designed to be anonymous so as to not add any additional stress to the student receiving the bag. The Weekend Bag team works with a liaison at the school who identifies the number of students to receive a bag.
